Against all odds, she has persevered and overcome very difficult obstacles on a daily basis for almost two decades, all the time keeping a positive attitude toward life and its challenges.   She has been able to maintain an autonomous, dignified yet modest lifestyle living in a studio apartment in San Jose, California and attending DeAnza College, as well as engaging in a variety of social issues such as helping the homeless and advocating for the rights of the disabled.

Asali suffered a significant financial downturn in 2009 when two of her funding sources dried up.  This has directly impacted her health, since she is no longer able to afford to level of care she really needs.  She has, so far, managed to avoid moving into a state-run nursing home because of the many generous donations received through this website.  Your continued donations help support her minimum level of care.
